The Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) of 2008 contains a number of important new provisions that improve access to postsecondary education for students with intellectual disabilities. Specifically, the HEOA of 2008 provided language to create access to federal financial aid, the creation of a National Coordinating Center, and 27 Transition and Postsecondary Education Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities (TPSID). The D.R.E.A.M Partnership is working closely with the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, and the Pennsylvania Office of Developmental Programs to identify develop strategies to improve the high school transition process for students with intellectual disabilities, and develop a long-term strategy for making the college dream a reality for many.
